Indian bowlers completely destroyed Sri Lanka’s dismal top-batting line-up to secure a sensational 302-run win on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In their chase of a huge total, Sri Lanka lost their openers Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne on ducks with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj striking respectively to give India early breakthroughs. It didn’t end there as Siraj again struck to send back Kusal Mendis (1) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (0) as Sri Lanka lost six of their batters in the space of (10) overs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma brought Shami into the attack as he too joined the party with his five-wicket haul in the form of Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dushan Hemantha, Dushmantha Chameera and Kasun Rajitha. India bowled out powerless Sri Lanka for (55) in (19.4) overs. Earlier, after being put into bat, India got off to a tricky start with Rohit Sharma being taken out by Dilshan Madushanka. However, Virat Kohli and Shubham Gill led India’s recovery with their knocks of (88) and (92) respectively. In the middle, Shreyas Iyer too appeared to be in great rhythm with his (82) to guide India to 357/8 (50). This is India’s seventh straight win in the tournament as they become the first team to qualify for semi-final.
