
Afghanistan thrashed Sri Lanka by (7) wickets in the 30th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup on Monday at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Afghanistan’s determination to prove themselves has yielded greater results for them. Sri Lanka, who had shown great mettle earlier with the win in their previous game, went down again Afghanistan which would affect their semi-final chances. Asked to bat, Sri Lanka were all out for (241) in (49.3) overs. Sri Lanka had the services of Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama who helped the team in getting a modest total with their scores of (46) and (36) respectively. Pathum Nissanka top-scored with (46). There was a period in the game when Sri Lanka were 134/2 but Afghanistan’s irresistible bowling attack dismantled Sri Lanka. Afghanistan in their chase had lost the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz early for a duck. But Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah provided the stability with their scores of (39) and (62) respectively while Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai played excellent innings of (58) and (73) unbeaten to take the team over the line.
