Sri Lanka’s veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews has replaced pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who was ruled out of the ongoing World Cup following the injury, into Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad. A shoulder injury to Pathirana stagnated his smooth World Cup campaign as he picked up the injury during Sri Lanka’s match against Pakistan. In the wake of his injury, Pathirana did also not feature in Sri Lanka’s next matches against Australia and Netherlands. Sri Lanka have been hit with injury woes as skipper Dasun Shanaka had earlier been ruled out of the World Cup due to a quadriceps tear. Sri Lanka’s next match is scheduled to take place on Thursday against England at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. So far, Sri Lanka have only won one match from their four matches in the tournament. It’s going to be a tough road for Sri Lanka moving forward into the tournament.
