
To register their fourth consecutive victory in the ongoing ODI World Cup, New Zealand thrashed Afghanistan by (149) runs on Wednesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Asked to bat, New Zealand were bolstered by the three half-centuries coming in from Will Young (54), Tom Latham (68) and Glenn Phillips (71). These big innings helped New Zealand get to a challenging total of (288) after losing (6) wickets from (50) overs. In their chase of the total, Afghanistan lost their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11) and Ibrahim Zadran (14) early on, although, there were little efforts from Rahmat Shah who scored (36) runs but he failed to carry on as Afghanistan continued to losing wickets at regular intervals. For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each while Trent Boult took two wickets followed by Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra returning with one wicket each to bowl out Afghanistan for (139) in (34.4) overs.
