The Sri Lankan cricket team will face a setback in their World Cup opener against South Africa as Maheesh Theekshana, their key player, will be sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Pakistan. Sri Lanka head coach Chris Silverhood confirmed Theekshan’s unavailability for the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

“Theekshana is still recovering from a hamstring injury which means he will not be able to play in this crucial match. However, we expect him to be back in the squad quickly. Fortunately, the rest of the squad is fit and ready,” Silverhood said.

The absence of Theekshana, who played a significant role with his exceptional bowling performance during the Asia Cup, is a big setback for Sri Lanka. The team, which suffered a momentous defeat against India in the Asia Cup final, is gearing up to take on South Africa in their first match at the World Cup.
