Team India registered a fabulous and a big victory in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium by beating Sri Lanka by (10) wickets with Mohammed Siraj coming out with magical spell to topple Sri Lanka’s top order batters. After India’s powerful victory, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma provided the major updates on players going through injuries. It’s been a big setback for India to see some of their crucial players getting injured and missing the games. Crucial players Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel have been going through injuries. Shreyas Iyer missed the Asian Games due to “Back Spasm” while Axar Patel missed the final after suffering injury in India’s match against Bangladesh. Iyer had only featured in the match against Pakistan.
“I know what’s happening with Shreyas. He was not available for this game (final). There were certain parameters that were kept for him to tick off. I think today he completed most of it. I would say 99 percent he should be okay as of now. But he looks good. He batted, he fielded for long hours before we came today, and he was on the ground. So he’s looking good at this point in time.So I don’t think it’s a worry for us,” said Rohit during the post-match press conference.
Giving update on Axar Patel, Rohit Sharma said that it can take around a week or ten days for Patel to make recovery. Rohit was also hesitant about Patel’s participation in the first two matches of the upcoming three-match ODI series at home.
“You know he had a small tear. It looks like maybe a week or ten days (to recover), I don’t know. We have to see how that injury progresses. Some guys recover quickly. I’m hoping that’s the case with Axar. We’ll wait and see what happens with him. I’m not too sure whether he’ll be okay to play against Australia in the first two games at home. But we’ll wait and see,” said Rohit.
